Funnies
At Hershey Park, they do their measurements according to different kinds of candy bars. Jake is a Reeces Peanut butter cup and Jon, technically, is a Hershey Kiss (about a half inch shy of the PB Cup). To ride the Comet, you had to be a PB Cup, but Jon really wanted to go on it, so we figured we'd give it a try. Andy told Jon to make himself look taller, so what does Jon do? He runs his fingers through his hair to spike it up and stands up on his tippy toes and says, "I'm making myself look taller. Do I look taller, Daddy?" It was hilarious!
The other night in the bathtub, the boys decided to lay on their bellies and blow bubbles. Bare hienies sticking up out of the water, Jake blows really hard and says, "woah, that sounded like an elephant barneying!!!"(when you pass gas, we call it a barney). I thought Andy was going to fall over he was laughing so hard!

Anniversary, Baseball and Hershey Park
Well, Andy and I are about to celebrate 9 years of marriage!!! Can you believe it? I think the over-under was 4 years, right Kimmy? :-) And to think, it all started when we both worked at our local bank; me as a cleaning girl and Andy as the trash guy, when we were in middle school! He thought I was out of his league (or so he tells me now :-) ) 6 years of dating, 3 kids, and at least 7 different addresses in 5 states and here we are, still as happy as ever. I love ya, kiddo! Happy Anniversary! To celebrate a little early, we dropped the kids off with Mommom and Popsy and Andy and I went to the Phillies/Brewers game. We had awesome seats and the game was pretty exciting! We grabbed dinner on the way back to Woodstown for the night. Yesterday, we took the kids, Merkles, and Aunt Kimmy to Hershey Park. What a treat for me to finally go to an amusement park and NOT BE PREGNANT!!! yahoo! I could actually do all the rides, not just the little kiddie rides!!! I had a blast! And even more fun than all the thrilling rides was taking Jon on the Comet...his first big boy roller coaster (and it was my first big roller coaster, too, some ????? years ago!!!) He was so excited and by the third time on it, he had his hands up the whole time! Jake was also thrilled to go on that...and several other big rides. He was bummed the SuperDooperLooper was closed (it goes upside down and he was tall enough!!!) Bummer! Next year! We had a great day and closed the park down!!! Thanks, guys for a fun day and for watching the kids so I could be a big kid, myself!! Sorry, no pictures...didn't want to bring my camera!! Just picture huge smiles on the faces of all (well, until Kimmy, Popsy, Andy and I went on the sidewinder, then Kimmy and Popsy were a little green!)
Babies and Banana Bread
In honor of my good friend Katie Owens having her new baby girl, Amelia (Congratulations, guys!!! You all need to check out the pictures on the Owens Update blog...she's beautiful!!!), I decided to make Katie's grandmother's banana bread recipe...well, that and I had some brown bananas!!! :-) I forgot how delicious this bread is!!! So, here's the recipe, and thanks "Meme" for passing it along to Katie and thanks Katie for sharing it with me!!!
Meme's Banana Nut Bread
1/2 c. butter (use the good stuff, no substitutes)
2 eggs
1 c. sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 c. mashed bananas (about 4 ripe ones)
1/2 c. sour cream (here's where you can lighten it up if you want...I used fat free)
1/2 c. nuts (walnuts are best)
1 2/3 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
Combine butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla. Cream on high for 1 1/2 min. Add bananas, sour cream and nuts and beat on low while adding dry ingredients. Put into greased and floured loaf pan and bake at 350 for about an hour. Cool for about 30min-1 hour in pan and then turn upside down to remove loaf. Let cool completely on wire rack (that's when you cut into it...when it's still a little warm...yum!!!).
Hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

The Weekend
So, the first practice went pretty well. Jake seemed to enjoy himself (though Daddy had a chat with him about hustle afterward) and Jon had a blast (though he cried once because he wanted to wear the orange pinny). Here we are walking to practice. We practice in a big grassy lot in our neighborhood which is really nice!
Friday, our little playgroup met at Wyoming Park and guess who I ran into? Jamie Ahl. Well, she's married now, but anyway...we went to high school together back in Woodstown! I've seen her once before at a skating rink in town, but we exchanged info this time, so hopefully we'll get together at some point. Small world.
Saturday was the big day...Hurricane Hanna was threatening, but we were able to get the first soccer game in!!! We had a little sprinkling of rain, but it was so humid it actually felt pretty good! The kids seemed to really enjoy themselves and it was great to see Jake really into it!! He was going after the ball, trying to dribble and shoot and trying to get it from the other team. He even made a good throw-in to his teammate, Monroe, who scored! Sweet! I was thrilled he was into it and having fun. Jon, Lizzie and Daddy cheered from the sidelines and I had a ball being the ref and coaching...well, it's more like cheerleading, but that's okay. Nice to be back into the game I enjoy so much and sharing it with my son.
Sunday I headed up to my folks' house with the kids. Andy had his UTA weekend with the reserves. Jake, Jon, Mommom Kaycee, and I picked lima beans from my dad's garden, the kids played with their cousins and then we went to Darnel's first Woodstown Pirates football game. He played a whopping 8 seconds, but hey, that's okay. It's his first year ever playing and he's having fun and meeting a lot of kids so that's good. His coach said he's really improving a lot so apparently he doesn't stink as much now as he did when he first started :-) Darnel cracked up when I told him that!!!
Here's Lizzie with Poppop and then with my sister, Jenn. I'm so proud of my sister. She's been a nurse's aid for years and is just starting to go to college to get her nursing degree. With two boys and full-time job, I know it won't be easy, but I'm really happy for her and hope all goes well for her.

Soccer begins!
Jake starts soccer tonight! I'm his assistant coach which hopefully will be a fun experience for both of us. We went to the store today to get new cleats (he has already outgrown his ones from T-ball in the spring!), shinguards, soccer socks, and a ball. Jon is just as excited because Andy told him he'd probably be able to practice with the team. I'm glad they're both excited to play. I'll let you know how it goes...

Labor Day Weekend
Hey folks! Well, you'd think with a long weekend, we'd have some nice downtime, get some little projects done around the house, etc. Yeah, right! Friday morning, we had playgroup at my friend Melissa's house. She did some MESSY activities for the kids outside...you know the stuff you never want to do with your kids at your house because it makes such a big mess (fingerpainting, silly string, slime-making, playdough, bubble painting). The kids, needless to say, had a blast! Jake was excited to go since he had off from school. That afternoon, Jon learned to ride Jake's bike with the training wheels on! It was awesome! He took right off! He had one little fall as you'll see below, but landed on his feet. Never fell again after that! I guess we need to go buy another bike! Good job, Jon!

Friday night, we took the kids to the Wilmington Blue Rocks baseball game (Single A, I think). The boys have been asking to go to a Phillies game, but this was a much better choice at $9 a ticket, so we didn't mind so much that they were more interested in dancing, playing I Spy, covering their faces with the Eagles baseball hats Aunt Kimmy and Mr. Don gave them, and taking silly pictures with Aunt Kimmy's camera (peanut shells, Jon's scalp, the sky, etc.)! Jake was interested for about two innings, so we were excited about that. After the game, there were fireworks, so that was cool. Lizzie's eyes were like saucers watching the display! We went with Kimmy and Don, Andy's folks, and the Reilley family (Rich is a childhood friend of Andy's and he was there with his mom and dad, brother and two little boys). We had a good time.

Saturday morning, my friends, Yolanda and Marie and I hosted a baby shower tea party at a local tea room for our friend, Andrea. It was such a girly place...mismatched china tea cups, luxurious kinds of tea (creme brulee, chai, chocolate raspberry truffle), fancy little sandwiches, scones, pastries, and chilled peach soup that was divine!!! We played a few games... I had to diaper and put a onesie on a baby doll with one hand!! Quite a challenge! But an even bigger challenge for someone like me who doesn't follow the latest celebrity news was matching the celebrity with the crazy name of their baby! I didn't get a single one right! We tried on fancy hats, took lots of pictures, and had a great time! Total girls' day out!
Sunday we headed up to Woodstown for a BBQ at the Merkles. I would say that Jake has learned to swim! It's been progressing over the summer, but he was all around the pool, putting his face in, stopping at the side for a breather, jumping in and swimming all around...it was awesome! Jon's getting better, too, and starting to swim further! And little Lizzie is taking after her big brothers. I put her belly down in the pool and held her under her belly and her little legs were just a kicking away and her arms moving like crazy! It was awesome! She loves the water so much. We all had a fun time playing homerun derby, shooting some hoops, sitting around the campfire roasting s'mores, and just hanging out with friends and family. Thanks, Mommom and Popsy! We had a great time!
And finally, the end to the long weekend: Monday. We did actually get some cleaning done and the grass mowed in the morning....so fun! Then we headed over to the Dye's for a BBQ. It was fantastic...great food, drink, and fun, as always at the Dye house. Then, towards the end of the evening, they built a fire in their little fire pit and everyone roasted marshmallows to make s'mores. As I was helping the boys, Andy sat by the fire holding Lizzie. Suddenly there was a pop and some embers flew from the fire. One landed on Andy's shoulder. That's when I had a moment I'd like to do over...I pulled his shirt taut to flick the ember off, but as I pulled, the ember fell onto Lizzie!!! My heart sunk, my stomach knotted as my little baby girl screamed! The ember was burning her neck and shoulder! I grabbed her, ran into the house to the sink, put cold water on a towel and onto her burns. My stomach is churning even now as I type this hours later. Marie gave me some Aquaphor to put on it and we left abruptly, trying to decide if we should go to the emergency room or not. We thought about calling Aunt Bev who's a nurse, Mike and Robyn who are EMTs, but ultimately, we decided to call Lizzie's pediatrician as soon as we got home and she instructed us to continue with the cold wet compresses for about an hour, keep it moist and come in to the office in the morning. So, that's what we did. Lizzie is a trooper. That little girl is one tough cookie! She was so calm and didn't make a peep from the moment we got home and I started to nurse her, even with the cold compresses going on and off her burned skin and rubbing more aquaphor on her. When we layed her in her crib on her belly, she popped her head up, started kicking her feet and moving her arms and grinning from ear to ear at us. I guess she knew we needed to see her beautiful smiling face before we went to bed. Not much sleep was had by Andy and I as we lay worrying about her and wondering if we should have gone ahead and taken her to the ER. We both felt so guilty for this happening to her and both blamed ourselves. Lizzie slept until almost 8. She woke up her normal happy self. Andy stayed home this morning and I took Lizzie to the doc. She has 1st and 2nd degree burns on her neck and shoulder, but the good news is that she won't need to have plastic surgery. We have some cream to put on her burns and she should be just fine. As tragic as this was for her and for us...and probably everyone at the BBQ, we thank God that it wasn't worse...the ember was so close to her ear, one could have hit someone's eye (the boys were much closer to the fire), it really could have been a lot worse. You know, we're thankful. We're thankful our baby girl is okay.
